Marketing Christmas, Getting the readership's attention in the Classified Section of the Newspaper
There is always a request to do better than last year and it almost goes without saying. I was asked to redesign this flyer (Shown on the upper left) 2013 was nice but they wanted a bit more punch.
The Classified Manager, response was "Boring " after I presented her with the image on the right. She wanted something different for this year. She wanted it be something people would remember and perhaps even a bit edgy. I presented the following three alternative and she went with #4 |
Marketing thoughts for an Advertorial Piece
The following is a brief description I wrote so possible advertisers would have
a better understanding of what we needed for a successful advertorial campaign.
a better understanding of what we needed for a successful advertorial campaign.
Editorial content commands attention uniquely different from that of paid advertisements. After all, anyone can claim that their own product is the best. But editorial content suggests that someone else has endorsed your product or service.
Marketing professionals agree that your ad message is everything. An Advertorial is a powerful way to distinguish your company from your competition.
Your Advertorial is a story that sells a product or service. The look of the ad mimics our editorial pages. The reader believes he’s reading editorial content, as opposed to an advertisement. The focus is on the content, with benefit-driven promotion techniques engaged.
Planting the seed of potential purchasing is our goal from paragraph one. As the article continues the desired result is for the reader to say ”hey, I really could use this”.
An Advertorial entertains as it explains, while holding the attention of a potential buyer. Prices, slogans and hype information need to be avoided. Focus on the editorial possibilities of your product or service.
Advertorials help advertisers gain a closer connection to their reader prospects. A business that offers personal services can use advertorials to introduce the company’s owner(s) or service providers. This will give the reader an inside look at who they might be dealing with., It is just like meeting someone new for the first time. Connections are a good beginning. Other businesses might use advertorials to explain the benefits of their services or to highlight a new product service.
Healthcare, consulting, personal and professional services, as well as businesses that are new to the community can use the advertorial format to build a personal connection with the community

Creating Flyers that encourage a Plan and Prepare Course of Action
Flyers are a very important part of the Observer & Eccentric sales persons presentation kit. The flyer is a condensed version of the sales pitch that is left behind with potential customers. It also is used as an introduction before the sales person has the opportunity to talk directly with a customer. The flyer needs to be attention grabbing and informative. This years flyers I added the "Consistency factor", I felt that all of the flyers produced should easy identify the O&E and the reader should not questions who's publication they are considering. The competition for gaining print customers is tough and even self-recognition is a good thing.
Shown here is a sampling of the the flyers I wrote, created and designed for South East Michigan Products.
